£799,

That is a child renewal: £799, 3 weeks or less, guaranteed. Even if it expired years ago, the existing record does most of the identity work.

Child passports expire faster than you expect

A child passport is valid for five years, not ten, and children under 16 need their own. They cannot travel on a parent's.

Families overseas are caught out by this constantly, usually a few weeks before a trip home. If your child's passport is within six months of expiry and you have travel in mind, start now.

Proving your child's citizenship: descent evidence

This is the part that worries parents most, and the part where first applications most often stall.

If your child was born outside the UK, their citizenship usually comes through a parent, and HM Passport Office needs to see that chain clearly.

If a parent was born in the UK,

you will generally need that parent's full birth certificate, your child's full birth certificate showing both parents, and evidence of the parents' relationship where relevant.

If a parent was themselves born outside the UK,

the chain goes back a generation further, and grandparents' documents may come into it. Whether citizenship passes by descent in that situation depends on the specific facts, and it is exactly the case to check before you pay rather than after.

If names do not match across documents.

A parent's married name on one certificate and maiden name on another, or a spelling that changed on emigration: that gap needs bridging with evidence.

We confirm what your case needs before submission. If a certificate is missing, we can help obtain a replacement; that comes at additional cost and we always quote first.

Parental consent and who can apply

A child application must be made by a person with parental responsibility, and HM Passport Office expects the consent of everyone who holds it.

Where parents are separated, where one parent is uncontactable, or where a court order affects arrangements, the evidence requirements change. These situations are common and workable, but they need to be handled properly at the outset. Tell us early and we will confirm what your case requires.

Photo rules for children

Child photos are the single most common cause of avoidable delay on these applications, and the rules are stricter than parents expect.

The child must be alone in the frame with nothing supporting their head, eyes open and looking at the camera, mouth closed, plain expression, plain light background, no toys and no other person's hands visible.

For babies under one, some of that is relaxed, but not all of it, and the detail matters. Lay the baby on a plain white sheet and photograph from directly above, which is usually the easiest way.

Send us the photo before you commit to it. Checking it costs nothing and re-taking it later costs weeks.

Travel rule

Travel-rule warning for British families overseas

British citizen or dual national travelling to the UK? You may not be able to rely on a foreign passport alone. If your UK passport is expired, very old, lost, damaged or never applied for, you risk problems at check-in or boarding. ASAP can help you get your UK passport fast from overseas.

Since 25 February 2026, British and Irish citizens cannot get a UK ETA. This applies to children exactly as it applies to adults. A child who is a British citizen is expected to travel to the UK on a British passport, even if they also hold another nationality and have always travelled on that one before.

The February 2026 entry rules explained
★★★★★Google review
When the recent UK entry rules changed for people who have dual citizenship, weeks before we were due to travel, we knew we would be at risk of not having a British passport in time. We googled and found ASAP passports. We enquired online and within a couple of hours Jacob called us, despite it being well after business hours. He was thorough, informative and empathetic to our situation. He talked us through the options and after we decided to move forward, he supported us through the process (including finding old expired passport history, birth certificates etc). Jacob kept us updated the whole way and even after the passport was delivered he checked in to make sure all was ok. Customer service is often non existent these days even when paying a premium, but in this instance the expense was 100% worth it. Highly recommend.

What is included

Every price is all-inclusive: the ASAP service fee, HM Passport Office fees, DHL Express courier collection, secure global air freight and return delivery. Additional costs apply only where official evidence has to be obtained for you, such as a replacement birth certificate. We always quote before spending anything.

Child renewals are backed by a full refund if we miss the published 3-week turnaround. The clock starts when your complete document pack is collected from you, not when you pay. First child applications are around 4 weeks on a best-endeavours basis and are not guaranteed.

Why British families overseas use ASAP

How long does a child UK passport take from overseas?

A child renewal is 3 weeks or less, guaranteed, from the moment DHL Express collects the document pack, with a full refund if we miss it. A first child passport is around 4 weeks on a best-endeavours basis, because citizenship has to be established from source documents and HM Passport Office may request more.

My child was born overseas and has never had a British passport. Can they get one?

In most cases yes, where citizenship passes from a parent. What we need to see is the chain: the British parent's documents, your child's full birth certificate showing both parents, and evidence bridging any name differences. If the British parent was themselves born outside the UK, the position depends on the specific facts and we check it before you commit.

Do both parents need to consent?

HM Passport Office expects the consent of everyone with parental responsibility. Where parents are separated, one parent is uncontactable, or a court order affects arrangements, the evidence requirements change. These cases are common and workable. Tell us early and we will confirm what yours needs.

How long is a child passport valid?

Five years, not ten. Children under 16 also need their own passport and cannot travel on a parent's. If your child's passport is within six months of expiry and you have travel in mind, start now.

What are the photo rules for a child or baby?

The child must be alone in the frame, eyes open, looking at the camera, mouth closed, plain expression, plain light background, no toys and no supporting hands visible. Some rules are relaxed for babies under one, and the easiest approach is usually to lay the baby on a plain white sheet and photograph from directly above. Send us the photo before you commit. Checking costs nothing, and re-taking costs weeks.

My child's passport was lost or stolen. Is that this service?

That is our replacement service, which covers children too: £799, 3 weeks or less, guaranteed, where eligible, plus the parental consent and evidence child applications always need. See replace a lost, stolen or damaged passport.

My child's name has changed. What do I need?

Evidence of the change: a deed poll, a court order, or a marriage certificate where a parent's name changed and that flows through. A passport cannot be amended, so a name change means a new passport is issued. See name or details change.

Can you do a parent's and a child's passport at the same time?

Yes, and it is common. Each application is its own service at its own price and timeline, but we coordinate them so the document gathering happens once and the collections are combined where possible. Tell us who needs what and we will set it up.

What is included in the price?

The ASAP service fee, HM Passport Office fees, DHL Express collection, secure air freight and return delivery to your overseas address. Extra costs arise only where official evidence has to be obtained for you, such as a replacement birth certificate, and we always quote before spending anything.
