British Passport Fees From the USA in 2026
The current overseas government application fee is £116.50 online for a standard adult passport and £75.50 for a standard child passport, before delivery. The corresponding paper-application fees and frequent-traveller options are below.

The government figures are application charges, not a complete ASAP service. They apply to renewals, first passports and replacements in the relevant passport category. The £999 ASAP VIP price includes government passport fees, collection and return delivery, with a 2-week-or-less guarantee for eligible adult renewals.
These overseas fees have applied since 8 April 2026. The previous standard adult online overseas fee was £108. For context, the current UK standard adult online fee is £102; that is not the overseas fee. Check the current official overseas passport fees if you need to confirm a government charge.

Extra Costs on Top of the British Passport Fee in the USA
The government application charge alone does not describe the full cost of getting a passport back overseas. Delivery, documents, photographs and currency conversion can affect the total. With ASAP, government passport charges and the courier collection and return are included in the service fee.
Courier delivery and document return
HM Passport Office currently lists £14.32 for international passport delivery and £14.32 for returning supporting documents where applicable. Together that is £28.64. A standard adult online fee of £116.50 plus both charges is £145.14. That figure is not an ASAP price and does not include other document-preparation or sending costs. The charge for returning supporting documents is not required in every case.
Documents and photographs
Additional costs can arise from preparing the evidence and getting a suitable photo. A American passport photo is not automatically compliant with the British specification; check the UK digital passport photo rules. ASAP checks the photo and explains anything that needs changing before submission.
Currency conversion and card fees
Prices are in pounds sterling. Your total in US dollars depends on your card’s conversion rate and any foreign-transaction charge. For illustration, the Federal Reserve exchange rates on 30 October 2026 showed US$1.3398 per £1. At that rate, £145.14 is approximately US$194.46 before card fees. This is a dated illustration, not a quote or a live exchange rate.
ASAP’s checkout shows any separately itemised card processing fee before payment. There is no separate government passport bill or postage charge to arrange for the service.
Replacement certificates
A first application may require records you do not already have. A local birth certificate comes from the state vital records office for the state of birth; UK records come from the relevant UK register office. If ASAP can obtain an official replacement certificate for you, we explain and agree the additional cost first.
Does a First British Passport Cost More Than a Renewal From the USA?
The government application fee is the same for the equivalent passport category, but the evidence involved in a first passport can be more substantial. For someone born in the USA to a British parent, the application may need family records, proof connecting names and documents establishing the relevant citizenship.
ASAP’s first adult British passport service is £1,499. A first child passport is also £1,499. Both include government passport fees and courier collection and return, with an estimate of around 4 weeks on a best-endeavours basis rather than a guaranteed deadline. Official replacement certificates, if needed, are quoted separately.
A passport issued before 1994 or an unclear record can also need a closer evidence check. That does not mean your British citizenship has expired. How the ASAP Turnaround Guarantee Works
The guarantee includes the courier journey. It begins when DHL Express collects your complete, correct document pack and runs to the first attempted delivery of your new passport at the agreed address. It does not begin at payment.
If we miss an eligible guaranteed deadline, we refund the full service price under the published guarantee terms. The separately itemised card processing fee is excluded. The guarantee concerns turnaround, not HM Passport Office’s decision to approve a passport.
